Amtico is a progressive and design-led company, manufacturing innovative and inspirational flooring and bringing the best in Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVTs) to Britain and the world at large.

Since 1964, Amtico has been designing and manufacturing unique LVTs in their Coventry factory, with innovative production processes and superb quality standards, including 57 product assurance tests before their flooring leaves the factory and long product warranties with a minimum of 20 years coverage.

With over 600 employees delivering thousands of flooring packages to retailers and customers every year and the original pioneers of Luxury Vinyl Tiles, Amtico has established itself as the undisputed industry leader and go-to choice for discerning homeowners and interior designers alike.

The Challenge

With their six decade commitment to world-class quality and industry-leading sustainability, Amtico’s supplier relationships have always been invaluable for their business. But before partnering with Kodiak Hub, their Procurement team did not have a dedicated SRM solution and managed their 1,200+ suppliers in Excel and Google Drive.

Supplier information was entered manually and often duplicated, and it was difficult to keep track of supplier contracts and certificates. Not to mention, it was nearly impossible to extract strategic insights from their supplier information with these legacy solutions.

Besides the inefficiencies in their Supplier Information Management, Amtico also struggled with their supplier engagement and collaboration by working with solutions that weren’t designed for SRM. 80% of suppliers would never answer Self-Assessments, and getting responses was very difficult, manual, and labor intensive – and this low engagement made it challenging to manage supplier risk.

Amtico’s Procurement team also struggled with internal collaboration. They didn’t have enough control of which suppliers their stakeholders were using, little direction to their spend, and not enough resources to roll out a proper Category Management strategy.

So after navigating the challenges of Brexit and COVID, Aimee Hughes (Amtico’s Procurement Manager – Indirect Spend) and her team decided that they needed best-in-class SRM solutions to improve their procurement processes, proactive mitigate risk, build stronger supplier relationships, and drive smarter strategic sourcing.

The Solution

Amtico’s team explored a diverse range of Supplier Relationship Management solutions, including a bespoke platform, an SRM tool within their existing ERP, and several dedicated SRM systems. But none of these solutions felt right for Amtico’s team and needs – they either lacked key features, weren't user-friendly or intuitive, had inefficient processes, or all of the above.

That is, until Amtico discovered Kodiak Hub.

At first glance, Kodiak Hub’s SRM system stood out for its sleek design and intuitive UX, along with easy access to all supplier data. “Visually and aesthetically, Kodiak Hub lays out data very simply and offers very quick access,” says Aimee Hughes about the platform. “It's all centrally-stored and you can see the information and what it’s representing very clearly rather than having a very granular level of detail.”

Amtico also saw how Kodiak Hub’s Supplier Self-Assessments and Actions features could help them overcome one of their biggest challenges of low supplier engagement.

“The biggest thing that we liked about Kodiak Hub was that it was interactive with the suppliers. We wouldn’t need to send out a set of questions, receive questions back, and then have to update the questions again. Kodiak Hub offered us the ability to send suppliers one nice, easy, and fresh campaign and get their responses directly in the system. Removing those steps would streamline our process and allow us to focus on other weaker areas to develop.”

The team was also impressed with Kodiak Hub’s internal collaboration solutions, such as the Notes functionality that centralizes all stakeholder feedback within Supplier Scorecards.

“What’s happened with the supplier is only as good as the person that’s dealt with them. And if that person leaves, they take all that information with them,” explains Aimee Hughes about the value of strong internal collaboration. “With the Notes feature, I didn’t even know I wanted that until I saw it.”

Amtico also found Kodiak Hub’s Global Map feature highly valuable, offering the team improved visibility into their supply chain and more proactive risk mitigation.

“Being able to visually see things on the Global Map, what countries are economically stable and whether there’s any climate- or disaster-related issues – if we’d have had that during COVID and during Brexit, it would have made our lives far simpler. To just run a list of suppliers in affect countries and then ping out a campaign, rather than having to trawl through and find where suppliers are and where our danger points are.”

Amtico’s improved control of their supplier information and stronger supplier engagement also drove better internal collaboration, since the entire organization had clarity on the approved suppliers they could work with and Procurement gained enhanced visibility into the suppliers that stakeholders were working with.
